Hot From Google - Misleading Image Ads Exposed!
I was checking out the Google Adsense blog and found a post from December 18th.. just a few days ago… where they show examples of using images next to their ads that are against their policy terms. Check out the examples… the image placements are exactly what a lot of Internet marketers have been recommending you do!
To quote from the blog post, “make sure that the ads and images are not arranged in a way that could easily mislead or confuse your visitors. For example, if you run a stock photography site with a catalog of thumbnail images, don’t line the ads up with the thumbnails in a way that could be misleading. Consider using a full border around your ads or changing your ad colors, for example.”
So, in a nutshell, you can’t make it look like the ads and the images are related.

This trick has been used by marketers for a long time. Google had warned about this earlier also and recommended use of a border or a rule to separate the two. Now they have made it clearer.
If one does not refrain from this practice, one runs the risk of getting booted out of Adsense program.

Is there a way, Neil, you can block ads like the Hawkins one above?
It is a blatant abuse of your popularity and good name.
(done-thanks for the heads-up)

That was a helpful tip. Good to hear all is well with you and your kids. My 2 kids too recently won over dengue fever. Helped them with herbals to get them out of the hospital quicker. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

This has been a grey area for some time now. I’m glad that Google have clarified the situation and (somewhat uncharacteristically) provided definitive guidelines.
At the end of the day, this will be better for surfers, advertisers and publishers alike.
Merry Christmas to all.

I am so sick of Google demanding this and that! Screw Them!
Do they think their program is the only one to make money?
YPN works quite well.
Google and their dictatorship methods need to stop.

Hi Neil,
This is a bit of “deja vu”.
Am I wrong, but didn’t Google state this condition relating to images and their ads some time ago?
Thought this was fairly common knowledge.
Wondering why they are bringing this up again, apart from the obvious… ‘abuse by some publishers’.

Internet marketing wouldn’t be the same without fellow marketers helping each other to stay on top of industry’s ever changing ideas and policies.
Thank you Neil for having read your e-mail newsletter from the Ad-Sense group instead of just glancing at it and then deleting it. Most importantly, thank you for taking the time to post the information about the guidelines for images on Google Adsense ads on all of our sites.
I am going to post a message on my blog sharing your information with a link to your posting, if you don’t mind. Thanks!
Merry Christmas!
