Neil Shearing’s Internet Marketing Strategies

Short version: We have a version of Real Link Finder for Windows 2000 machines (I think SP3 may be necessary). Please download this file and install the setup.exe file. If you need to install .Net, run the setup.msi file.

Long version: Originally Real Link Finder worked with Windows 2000 machines, but a lot of people had trouble downloading the required .Net from the Microsoft website, so we decided to bundle a file, setup.msi, with the new shiny version of Real Link Finder in an EXE package. The MSI file automatically installed .Net if it was required without the user having to visit Microsoft’s website. However, Windows 2000 machines couldn’t process the CAB files inside the EXE to begin the installation… so Windows 2000 users couldn’t install the new version. Now we understand the problem and I’ve put the setup file for Real Link Finder (setup.exe) and the setup file for .Net (setup.msi) inside a zip file separately.

Still with me? No, I thought not.

Summary: We have Real Link Finder versions for 32-bit machines, 64-bit machines, XP machines, Vista machines and Win2000 machines.

I can’t believe it’s been nearly two weeks since my last post. There was so much I intended to write about, but it all got swept away by the “10 Day Cash Secrets” tidal wave. I guess when you make over 1,000 sales you have to expect an onslaught of customer support requests.

So, what was I going to write about… well…

1: The problems I had with PayPal during the launch. This drove me nuts. I was busy taking orders, working with JV partners, doing customer support and bang PayPal puts a “restriction” on the account I’ve had since 2001! It wasn’t a full restriction because I could still take orders (phew!) but I couldn’t send money to anyone… so I had to deal with getting the restriction lifted before it was time to pay my affiliate commissions, or my web-hosting bills. That was a hassle I could’ve done without. I learned some interesting stuff, and will share it with you in a free PDF soon.

2: We have new versions of Real Link Finder for people on Xeon processors and other 64-bit processors. Head on over to Real Link Finder to get your free copy of the software. Although there were a few teething problems with the “10 Day Cash Secret” plugin (why do all webhosts have to do things like cron and server paths differently!), we’ve worked really hard to iron out any issues and have produced a FAQ page, a PDF walkthrough and are creating some scripts to further automate the process.

4: I bought a new machine with Vista, even though I was really reluctant to do so. I have a machine in my office running Vista and I hardly ever turn it on because I hated getting bugged with “are you sure you want to click Enter”? Sheesh. But this new machine was required because my XP machine was taking 10 seconds to switch from Outlook to Internet Explorer (literally!). I don’t know if they’ve made changes to Vista since its release, but it seems much friendlier, less bossy and more helpful. I’m actually impressed. (it may also help that the new machine has 3Gb ram and a Phenom processor).

5: I recorded movies about the “10 Day Cash Secret” launch and made them available as a free bonus with my “Insider Rollout Secrets” product. That means the “Insider” product now takes you behind the scenes of two digital product launches I did and reveals how hundreds of thousands of dollars in sales were generated.

6: The site I’ve built automatically with unrewritten Private Label Rights articles had 74,955 visitors in February according to Google Analytics. I don’t pay anything for advertising, so that’s purely free traffic from search engines. I love semi-exclusive content… like good PLR articles and datafeeds!

Sometimes I like to write about non-Internet marketing topics at this blog, and breast cancer is a topic I have an interest in dating back to when I did my Ph.D. on a molecular aspect of breast cancer.

It appears that there is strong evidence linking a newly discovered gene to the ability of breast cancer to spread. This ability is called “metastasis” and it means that a tumor spreads from one area of the body to many different locations… which makes it much harder to treat. Researchers have found, according to the journal Nature that “the gene, called SATB1, is thought to control the use of around 1000 others to promote the spread, says Dr Terumi Kohwi-Shigematsu of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, California”. (reported in the Telegraph)

“When the researchers looked for SATB1 in breast cancer cells from more than 1,300 samples, they found a striking pattern. In almost all cases, the more SATB1 those cells contained, the more aggressive the tumour was.” (link to Nature paper)

This is similar to what I found in my Ph.D. thesis. I looked at the expression of one particular gene which coded for a drug-metabolizing enzyme. The more enzyme there was, the easier the cell could get rid of anti-cancer drugs. What I found was that gene expression was turned off in the drug-sensitive cells by DNA structural changes, which weren’t present in the drug-resistant cells. This is similar to what has been found by the Nature team who are saying that their “master gene” controls spatial changes in the actual DNA, resulting in increased activity of genes responsible for metastasis.

While the search for a “cure” is a long way off, this is exciting news from the forefront or breast cancer research. It also has implications for other cancer types because it raises the question of whether or not this “master” gene controls metastasis in other tumor types.

I don’t know why so few people take me up on the offer. It’s either that my signature file isn’t very exciting, or, more likely, most people are really busy and overlook it.
