I’ve been testing selling a “non-Internet marketing” product on Clickbank and it’s been a real eye-opener.
The very first person to purchase the ebook hit me with a chargeback. When Clickbank added their own fee, it made a $51 deduction in my accounts.
Now, I don’t go looking for conspiracy theories, but I’m pretty sure that the first person to buy my ebook, within hours of it going on sale, who then issued a chargeback, was most likely a professional Clickbank thief… someone who makes a living ripping off genuine products and most likely selling them as their own.
I mean, how hard is it to email the merchant (me), or Clickbank directly and ask for a refund? Most merchant’s would agree, it’s probably too easy.
I haven’t had any chargebacks from anyone else, and very few refunds.
So, what do you think? Was I knifed by an evil Clickbank thief… or a competitor hoping to torpedo my little Clickbank business before it has a chance to grow?
I’m not sure about that. Could be, but more likely just a fluke. If it had been anything more, you would see several CB’s over a span of several days from several IP’s and CC purchases.
now this is something unfortunately one has to life with
people stealing content and selling them online.
there are a million places where these things can be stored and shared ( warez) and practically there is nothing we can do about it, so no worries, its’ kinda like guriella marketing tactic.
I was getting many chargebacks recently and I was seriously thinking of closing my digital store.
After a week thinking about it, I decided to continue because those chargebacks were related to 5 orders made by a guy (not from 5 different buyers).
I had googled his email address and found it posted on several forums and promoting hosting services in an Asian country.
Yes, there is always someone who want to profit and steel the work of others. You must take precautions and be very careful.
Maybe it was just a person who wanted your ebook for free. There are lots of people who constantly refund products.
It wasn’t a refund… I wouldn’t have minded a refund. It was a chargeback, costing $50 in fees.
Neil.
Yes i have gotten charge back with discount like you in another online sale, first i thought it was system error, but i confirmed by email, they never reply my email..so I let it go..:(( spamm
