I just found out about a great little WordPress plugin for automatically building on-site links within a blog. It’s called SEO Smart Links and I’ve been testing it on a few of my blogs.
Short story… it rocks!
All you do is download and activate the plugin and tell it two bits of information for each SEO phrase you want to rank for…
1: which text within your blog posts to turn into links
2: where to point the links.
Simple, eh?
The plugin then scans your blog posts for instances of the text you want to turn into links and turns them into hyperlinks pointing to the URL you stipulated.
So, if you think you want to rank better for “Internet marketing strategies”, you just enter that as the text and the post you want to rank for that phrase as the URL (eg http://www.neilshearing.com/internet-marketing-strategies/. Then, wherever “Internet marketing strategies” is found on your blog, it will be hyperlinked to that URL.
You can also create external links complete with “no-follow” and “open in a new window” commands, which makes it perfect for creating contextual affiliate links.
Simple, elegant and very useful.
Hat tip to Duncan Carver for telling me about the plugin.
